Elizabeth found an injured butterfly on our camping trip to Ogden canyon. We think maybe it was attacked by a bird and got away. You can see that the lower part of one wing is missing. When she found it, one lower wing was over the upper wing instead of under it and I fixed that. It would flutter its wings, but couldn't fly away.
Here you can see the bug eyes, the antenna and the curly tongue. She took good care of it. She talked baby talk to it, gave it a name and held it so it didn't get squished.
We put it into a bowl when we were ready to go hiking. During our hike we gave it some flowers and it just used the flowers to climb out of the bowl. As we got higher in elevation, it got windier and it fluttered more. Then Liz yelled at us and we looked back as it took off and flew really high and away. I was afraid we would have to put it out of its misery. I'm glad that it recovered from whatever shock was keeping it down.
